Maria A. Flaquer, MD, is the Senior Medical Director for the Federal Employee Program® (FEP) at Florida Blue. She joined Florida Blue as the FEP medical director of care management in 2018 and was promoted to her current role, with responsibility for the overall clinical performance of Florida Blue’s FEP member population. These responsibilities entail improving NCQA HEDIS quality measures for FEP members, supporting the FEP provider network, and leading a team of FEP Utilization Management medical directors.
Before joining Florida Blue, Dr. Flaquer spent 20 years in a variety of clinical and administrative practice settings. She opened her de novo Family Medicine practice as a solo practitioner in 2006 and cared for the community of Allen, Texas. Dr. Flaquer also served as Regional Medical Director of Florida for Humana and worked for Texas Health Physicians Group at their Texas Health Resources facilities.
Dr. Flaquer is a board-certified Family Physician. She received her medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Parkland Hospital. She also completed the Yale School of Management Executive Education for Health Management program.
