  Terry Yochum DC, DACBR, Fellow, ACCR, FICC

  Dr. Terry R. Yochum is a second-generation chiropractor and a cum laude graduate of the National College of Chiropractic, where he subsequently completed his radiology specialty. He is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology and served as its Vice-President and President for seven years (1983-1990).

  Dr. Yochum is currently the Director of the Rocky Mountain Chiropractic Radiological Center in Denver, Colorado, and an Adjunct Professor of Radiology at Southern California University of Health Sciences (formerly LACC).

  On September 27, 1996, Dr. Yochum was bestowed the honor of “Fellow” by the American Chiropractic College of Radiology (ACCR). He is the youngest recipient ever to receive this award, which has only been given to eight DACBRs since the inception of the ACCR in 1958. The title of Fellow is the highest honor awarded to any member of the ACCR for distinguished service and contributions to the advancement of chiropractic radiology.  Dr. Yochum was also honored with an appointment to the Department of Radiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine as a skeletal radiologist, where he has been on staff since January of 1991. In June of 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2006, he was unanimously voted “Best Faculty Radiology Instructor of the Year” by the 40 radiology residents at this university. He is the only person ever to have won this award nine times. Dr Yochum is the recipient of the “Dr. Monte Greenawalt Chiropractic Excellence Award”, presented in Las Vegas, Nevada, in February 2003, by Mr. Kent Greenawalt, President of FootLevelers, Inc.  This award has only been given to a few people in the fifty-five-year history of FootLevelers, Inc.  Dr. Yochum was voted the co-chiropractor of the year (2006) in his home state of Colorado.

  Dr. Yochum has presented over 1,000 lectures worldwide. He has had over 250 scientific articles published in both the chiropractic and medical literature. The first edition of Dr. Yochum’s text, “Essentials of Skeletal Radiology”, is a benchmark publication for the profession. This textbook has sold over 100,000 copies since 1987.  It is the required text in radiology at all 40 chiropractic colleges worldwide and is being used in over 100 medical schools worldwide.

  The third edition of Dr. Yochum’s text was released in 2005 and has expanded to 1,900 pages with a new chapter entitled “Masqueraders of Musculoskeletal Disease”.

  Spondylolysis: Fat- Friend or Foe?

  Course Description

  This course provides an in-depth review of spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis with emphasis on clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging, and evidence-informed management strategies. Special focus is placed on differentiating active versus inactive conditions and understanding the role of bone marrow fat in prognosis and treatment decision-making, particularly in athletic populations.

  Learning Objectives

  1. Differentiate between spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis, including key etiological factors. 
  2. Recognize clinical presentations and perform appropriate orthopedic testing, including the Stork (Micheli’s) Test. 
  3. Interpret relevant imaging findings from plain film radiography and MRI. 
  4. Develop management strategies for active versus inactive cases, including the use of spinal manipulation and bracing. 
  5. Evaluate the clinical significance of bone marrow fat in determining prognosis and treatment planning, particularly in athletes.

  Course Description

  This is a case-based lecture pulling from cases read for chiropractors across the nation. We will review a wide range of pathology from sports injury, arthritis, infection and neoplasm all of which have come through practicing Chiropractors doors. Proper utilization of imaging will be covered, and this will remind the practicing doctor that arthritis is not the only pathology that could come through their door!

  Learning Objectives

  1. Identify and differentiate common and uncommon pathologies encountered in chiropractic practice, including sports injuries, degenerative conditions, infections, and neoplastic processes.
  2. Apply clinical reasoning to case-based scenarios in order to recognize red flags and determine when advanced diagnostic evaluation or referral is warranted.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate utilization of diagnostic imaging to support accurate assessment, improve differential diagnosis, and guide patient management decisions.
